3 Injured In Nickajack Boating Accident On Saturday

Three people were injured Saturday evening in a boating accident on Nickajack Lake.

The Marion County Sheriff’s office received a call and contacted TWRA officer, Marty Griffith around 8:40 p.m. regarding a boat collision with a moored barge north of the Highway 41 bridge on Nickajack Lake. The Haletown Fire Department also responded.

The three passengers aboard the runabout which struck the moored barge included husband and wife, Ronald and Gretchen Tucker, from Georgia, and Danny Westmorland. Mr. Westmoreland received serious injuries and was life-flighted to Erlanger Medical Center.

Ms. Tucker sustained a broken leg and fractured ankle and Mr. Tucker a broken ankle. Both were transported by ambulance to Erlanger Medical Center. Mr. Westmorland remains in critical condition and all three remain in the hospital.

The cause of the accident is unknown at this time. None of the passengers were wearing personal floatation devices. The incident is under investigation.
